Good-Bye to Pleasures

What makes people voluntarily say good-bye to pleasures? Don't these people know that life is too short to refuse from a few happy moments it presents let alone refusing from one's favourite pleasures? Looks like such people are absolute masochists or indeed have justifiable reasons to decide to leave their most delicious pleasures behind.
We will proceed keeping the word 'delicious' in mind now for a fine example of saying good-bye to one's pleasures is refusing from eating delicious food. Why do people do it? The answer is simple – because they want to get rid of or prevent extra weight. These cases of self-torturing are very frequent and often work but not always contribute to stabilizing a person's psychological condition.
There is a group of pleasures saying good-bye to which is hard but very logical. Why – because they are too expensive for a person to afford them. So who says money doesn't make the world go round?
There are people who say good-bye to sex even. Reasons for this are different, sometimes they are earthy and understandable, sometimes they are uneasy to comprehend by those whose outlook is absolutely different.
For instance, a person says good-bye to sex (his or her sexual life) when he or she gets old and i.e. is no longer able to enjoy its pleasures due to factors which base on the person's physical health. Or a person may refuse from sex because he decides to become a priest and she decides to become a nun and i.e. dedicate their whole life to God.
